Besides running my own small farm, one of my passions is horse rescue. Many folks (even in the horse community) don’t realize that over a hundred thousand horses a year sold at auction are actually bought by kill buyers and shipped to Canada and Mexico to be slaughtered and sold as food for people. If you want more information, check out HSUS or ASPCA.
Meet Henry, he was one of the lucky ones. Safe Haven Equine Warriors rescued him on February 29th from a well known auction house that caters to kill buyers. Henry is a wonderful little six year old pony who will now be able to live out his life knowing love and safety.
Right now Henry is in quarantine as horses at auction are exposed to all kinds of diseases. He will receive any necessary medical care and have his hooves and teeth done. Oh, and lots of attention! He will be brushed and handled to get him ready for when he gets to go to Safe Haven to be evaluated for riding ability and adopted out to his forever home. 🙂
